Joe Lamancusa, marketing director with Visual Design Concepts, has a new twist on old ties and explains how to make a few different versions -- even one to light up the night. Photo Tie Materials:
Delta Photo to FabricB. (product is discontinued)
Tie
Color copies of photos
Sponge brush
Water
Fabric paint
Fabric glue
Ribbon
Glitter
- Cut out color copies of photos in desired shapes. Joe cut his into circles.
- Apply Delta Photo to Fabric on top of each photo with a sponge brush (figure A).
- Turn the photos upside down on the tie, and let them dry (figure B).
- Wet your fingers with water, and rub off the paper. The photos will remain on the tie. Be sure not to rub too hard, and don't use a sponge, or you could rub off the photos. Use fabric paint to outline the pictures, and sprinkle glitter over the paint while it's still wet. Glue bows on under the pictures with fabric glue (figure C).
Variations: - To make a jeweled tie, glue faux jewels onto a tie with Quick TiteB. Super Glue, and paint swirls along the tie with fabric paint and a brush (figure D).
- To make a glitter tie, cut out circles of PEELnSTICKB. adhesive, peel away the backing, and stick the circles to a tie. Peel away the other side of the backing, leaving the adhesive on the tie. Sprinkle glitter over the adhesive (figure E).
- Light up a tie with miniature lights wired to a portable power source. Poke holes in the tie, and thread the miniature lights from the back of the tie. Secure a power pack to the inside of the tie at the bottom, using VelcroB. (figure F).
